Patriots Pull Off Slick Roster Move Before Facing Raiders

The Patriots just re-signed linebacker Jose Ramirez to the practice squad. Here is why this quick move matters before the Raiders game.

The Boston Bruins didn’t just win their home opener; they exposed a fatal flaw in the New York Rangers’ game plan. While the scoreline reads 3-0, the real story is how the Rangers stayed scoreless with Boston for nearly 56 minutes before allowing three goals in a 75-second span. This wasn’t bad luck. It was bad decision-making that Mike Sullivan refused to let slide.

Turning Pucks Over in the Wrong Spots

Coach Mike Sullivan didn’t sugarcoat the disaster after the final buzzer. He pointed directly at the team’s inability to move the puck safely through the neutral zone. Sullivan told reporters that the Rangers “turned pucks over in the wrong areas of the rink,” a mistake that cost them the game. The Bruins capitalized on these errors with surgical precision, turning sloppy play into a 3-0 lead before the Rangers could blink.

The breakdown happened right in front of the Rangers’ own net. Fraser Minten broke the tie with 3:46 left on the clock after a turnover by defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. Less than a minute later, J.J. Peterka’s beat Braden Schneider one on one to make it 2-0. According to reports, the squad was attempting to move too much laterally rather than simplifying and attacking directly. That lack of simplicity killed the Rangers.

Young Defensemen Struggle Under Pressure

The pressure was too much for rookie defenseman Alberts Å mits, making his debut at just 18 years old. He played 16:54 minutes and committed two early turnovers, but neither directly resulted in a Boston goal. Å mits admitted his own faults, stating, “I just gotta make better decisions at some points.” He knew he made plays that weren’t there and wanted to take them back. Even with Igor Shesterkin making 20 saves, the defensive lapses were impossible to hide.

This isn’t the first time the Rangers have started a season with a shutout loss. They were blanked by the Pittsburgh Penguins to start last season as well. The pattern of turning pucks over in dangerous areas is becoming a habit that the Bruins are happy to exploit. Sullivan cautioned that the group cannot score 55 while allowing three goals in the final four minutes. That is exactly what happened.

The Bruins Lock It Down

While the Rangers struggled to finish, the Boston Bruins proved why they are a tough team to beat at TD Garden. Jeremy Swayman recorded his 19th career shutout, denying every shot the Rangers threw at him. The Rangers actually had more shots on goal, 24 to 23, but couldn’t get the puck past the net. Sullivan stressed that to secure victory, his team must “try to lock it down for a full 60 minutes.”

The final score tells the story of a team that unraveled when it mattered most. With just 23 seconds remaining after Peterka’s second strike, Mark Kastelic added the finishing touch via an empty-net goal. The Bruins now have 11 consecutive wins in home openers, tying a long-standing NHL record. The Rangers have a long road ahead to fix their defensive habits before they face this level of pressure again.
