Inside the New England Patriots building, people are baffled by the loud rumors that star cornerback Carlton Davis is being traded. This isn’t just a quiet whisper from a random blog. It is a direct reaction from people working inside the team who find the idea completely nonsensical. The team has a solid group of corners, and moving Davis would leave a massive hole they cannot fill.
Andrew Callahan, a Patriots reporter for the Boston Herald, dismissed the rumors on his “Pats Interference” podcast. He said he checked on the situation and found no truth to the claims. “Sometimes its just other teams throwing [stuff] at the wall and just see what sticks and make a stir in other buildings,” Callahan said. The noise likely comes from other clubs trying to create confusion or lower the price for players they actually want. But for Davis, the report is clear: he is staying.
The Real Trade Target Is Christian Barmore
While the Davis chatter is fake, the trade buzz around defensive tackle Christian Barmore is very real. Callahan confirmed that the Patriots are indeed shopping Barmore, and the price tag could be low. Sports Illustrated analyst Albert Breer suggested New England might take a fourth-round draft pick for the 27-year-old tackle. This move makes sense because the team has other needs, and Barmore’s role has shrunk in Foxboro.
Barmore has signed a four-year, $84 million contract, but he has only played seven games this season. He has recorded 3.5 sacks and 10 pressures so far. “If that’s the case, the Packers should be all over a move like that one,” wrote the NFL analyst. The Packers are looking to strengthen their defensive line as they prepare for a big matchup.
Defensive Stars Get a Boost
The Patriots defense is not just relying on trades to get better. Linebacker Christian Elliss is proving his worth with hard work and consistency. He started 21 of 23 games over the last two seasons and has 60 tackles this year. Defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr praised Elliss for his growth and leadership on the field. “But his consistency has been his consistent improvement, and whether that be learning multiple roles now, being multiple packages, and yeah, I think he’s just a great example to those younger guys,” Kuhr said.
Elliss is in a contract year and has played 481 defensive snaps, which is second on the team. His salary will likely go up after this strong performance. The team also has other key players like Drake Maye leading the offense. The Patriots sit at 5-3 and are in a good spot to make the playoffs. The next game is Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4:25 p.m. ET when the Green Bay Packers come to Gillette Stadium.
