NFL Admits Mistake On the Bills Loss to Patriots

The NFL admitted to missing a major penalty during the Patriots' victory over the Bills. A late 12-yard pass to Hunter Henry could have changed everything.

The New England Patriots are looking to add a proven pass rusher before the trade deadline closes. According to Yahoo Sports, NFL analyst Kristopher Knox identified the team as a top destination for Miami Dolphins edge rusher Josh Uche. This move could happen fast if the price stays low. Miami sits winless to open the year, which often leads to a fire sale of key players. New England has a chance to cash in on that desperation.

Uche is not a stranger to the Patriots. He was taken in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft before being traded away during the 2024 season. This past offseason, he secured a one-year deal with the Dolphins. Now, he has played in five games for Miami. The numbers show he is still effective: 20 total tackles, two for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery. These stats prove he can get into the backfield and make life tough for opposing offenses.

A Smart Risk for New England

The cost to get Uche is the main reason this deal makes sense. In Knox’s view, Uche might merit a conditional 2027 fifth-round draft pick. That is a very low price for a veteran who knows the system. His contract includes no long-term money. The Patriots do not have to worry about a big salary cap hit next year. They get a boost for the rest of the season without locking up a player they might not want later.

New England has found its footing after a slow start to the year. The offense is clicking, and the defense is playing better than it did a month ago. Drake Maye has turned things around, helping the team win two straight games. But consistency remains the key to staying in the playoff hunt. Adding Uche gives the defensive unit more depth to work with as they face tough opponents down the stretch.

Division Rivals Make Tough Trades

Trading between division rivals is usually hard to pull off. Teams do not want to help a direct competitor. However, Miami might make the move if New England puts a strong offer on the table. The Dolphins need to clear space or get something back for a player who might not fit their future plans. A conditional fifth-round pick is a fair price for both sides. It gives Miami a future asset and gives New England an immediate upgrade.

The Patriots have a history of making smart moves at the deadline. They know how to build a roster that works for the short term. Uche fits well alongside the other players on the current squad. He brings experience and the ability to rush the passer. Should the pairing succeed once more, the Patriots may attempt to keep him during the offseason. If not, they walk away with a player who helped them win for a few months and a draft pick that cost them very little.

The front office must act quickly. The trade deadline is coming up, and other teams will be watching. If New England waits too long, Miami might find a better deal. The team needs to decide if a conditional fifth-round pick is enough to get the job done. Uche is a veteran who knows how to win. He played in the Super Bowl a year ago. That experience matters when the stakes get high.

New England plays the New York Jets next on Sunday, Oct. 18.
