Dunkin’ is not playing it safe this weekend. The coffee giant is swapping its classic sign for three Foxborough locations to read “GRONKIN'” in honor of Rob Gronkowski. This bold move runs from Nov. 6 to Nov. 9, just in time for the former tight end’s Hall of Fame induction. Boston.com reported that these stores will sport special Gronk-themed decorations and limited-edition doughnuts to celebrate the legend. It is a massive nod to a player who defined an era of dominance for the Patriots.
A Legacy Built on Hard Hits
Gronkowski earned this spotlight after fans voted him in during his first year of eligibility. This weekend, the Patriots Hall of Fame welcomes its 38th inductee. His resume includes three Super Bowl championships and 79 career touchdown catches while wearing the navy blue and red. On Saturday, Nov. 7, the public may attend the free induction ceremony at Patriot Place Plaza. The locations getting the makeover sit at 221 Patriot Place, 263 Main St, and 16 Washington St in Foxborough. Fans can grab a coffee and remember the days when Gronk tore up defenses week after week.
The Charles Barkley Play
The “Gronk route” remains a staple in the playbook even years later. New England’s coaches named the play after NBA legend Charles Barkley because it suited Gronkowski’s size and speed perfectly. Former coach Bill Belichick noted the impact of that specific play on Gronk’s career stats. “When [Rob] Gronkowski goes into the Hall of Fame, which he will, half of his yardage probably came on Charles Barkley,” Belichick said. The play relied on a fake handoff to freeze linebackers before Gronkowski ran free across the field. It was an unstoppable weapon that helped the Patriots build their dynasty.
His physical play style defined his time in New England. A memorable moment occurred in 2014 against the Indianapolis Colts when Gronk tossed a defender out of bounds. Sergio Brown had been trash-talking him during the game. “He was just yappin’ at me the whole time,” Gronkowski said at the time. “So I took him and threw him out of the club.” That postgame line captured the hard-nosed attitude that made him a fan favorite. The Patriots will host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4:25 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.
