Travis Shaw is off the New England roster. The Patriots announced Friday that they released the rookie free agent defensive tackle, closing a stay that lasted just under two months and never reached training camp.
Shaw signed with the club on May 20 as an undrafted free agent out of Texas. He is 21 and listed at 6-foot-5, 334 pounds, which made him one of the largest players on the roster.
The college path ran through two programs. Shaw spent his first three seasons at North Carolina from 2022 through 2024, then transferred to Texas for 2025. He appeared in 50 games across his career with one start, finishing with 68 total tackles and two fumble recoveries. His lone season with the Longhorns produced 13 games, one start and 13 tackles.
Interior defensive line has been an active area for New England this month. The club signed first-year defensive tackle Isaiah Iton, and the Shaw release came the same week that camp roster spots started tightening.
