DeVito owns the field
DeVito didn’t stop at one touchdown. Big shots down the field came when he linked up with Kyle Williams and Mack Hollins. He found everyone who ran a route, from Efton Chism to Hunter Henry. Pats Pulpit‘s source material indicates DeVito concluded his own one-minute drill by scoring. In 2025, this player found himself buried on the depth chart. Now he has a stranglehold on the No. 2 spot. DeVito explained his jump in performance by saying, “It’s a different world.” He noted that learning in the classroom is one thing, but getting reps on the field is what matters most. Last year he got zero reps in the offense until OTAs. Now he is physically learning from his mistakes. That is why he looks so sharp right now.
He’s finally breathing the air of a real quarterback, not just a guy watching from the sideline.
Maye fights through the noise
Drake Maye had a rough day, but he still made plays. He completed 15 of 23 pass attempts during 11-on-11 work. He also went 4-of-6 in the 7-on-7 drills. He threw deep balls to A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs early on. Tight ends Hunter Henry and Eli Raridon were also targets. But the interception late in the one-minute drill was the story. DeMario Douglas was the target on that ill-fated pass. Douglas had a great practice otherwise, catching two passes from Maye before the pick. He looked fast and quick against the Colts’ defensive backs. Maye can feel good about the early plays, but the turnover hurts. The team needs him to clean up the end of the drive.
Can you trust him to win a game if he can’t close out a drive in practice?
Rookies get a real test
The joint practice gave the first-year players a chance to hit somebody else. He has been going up against the same guys for weeks. Now he faces a new defense. Lomu played 59 snaps as Utah’s left tackle in a win over Kansas back in November. This practice is the next step. He said, “It’ll be fun to go against another team besides the Patriots, who we have been going up against all camp.” Undrafted rookie Tanner Arkin expects a “high-energy, awesome day.” Team captain Marcus Jones told the rookies to “Take it one play at a time.” The competition will be fierce, but the learning is real.
Lomu faces the Colts’ pass rush on Thursday, and there is no getting out of that.
